Intestine

IFABP/FABP2

Fatty acid binding proteins are small (13-14kD) intracellular proteins with a high degree of tissue specificity. Intestinal FABP is specifically localised in the epithelium cells in the small intestines. Normally IFABP is undetectible in serum. During ischemia or injury IFABP leaks rapidly out the damaged cells leading to a rise in blood and urine concentrations.
